Let me start at the very begining. In 1999 I bought a computer because everyone had one and they were so full of it. The only problem was that I didn't know how to start it . In my ideal world it should have come alive as soon as I plugged it into the wall socket. But that was not to be.Now, seven years, hundreds of telephone calls, distress messages, crashes, virus attacks and what have you later, here I am full of knowledge (I know, now, that internet is not something loaded into the computer but is accessed through the telephone lines) and skill (I was recenty asked to help with a powerpoint presentation for a school project!!!), one website old and one blog young. And just between you and me, sometimes I even use words like upload, download, URL, HTML code in front of people who I know for sure have less knowledge than me. I write, 'know for sure' because it is very dangerous to show off when the best you can manage is 'think'. Trust me, and I know this from experience, you don't want to be the centre of attention at a gathering, when at best you 'think' you know about someone, only to find out there was a slight under estimation on your part (more than slight in my case).Anyway the gist of the story is that I am better at computers than I was in 1999, I am one website and one blog old and I am proud of my achievement- that is when I can bring myself to forget the really embarrassing bits. This brings me to the real story, the story that I have set out to tell with this blog, the story of my first tentative step on the virtual property ladder, my first trip (and trip I did - several times) down the virtual home owner's lane.Sometime towards the end of Febuary, 2006, I sat punching at my laptop trying to find some work at home opportunities. All I found after hours and hours of searching, were totally crass, brainless ads directed at people who wanted to make 500 bucks an hour, if not more but despite my robust optimism, I found it impossible to believe them. I mean, I know people selling these ideas are not lying, they are probably making much more than that, but what was there in it for me, other than making a contribution towards their financial well being? So I searched some more the next day and some more the day after that till I hit upon a website that talked about setting up blogs and websites and earning money through advertising on them. Now, advertising, in my dictionary is another word for showing off, which I think goes against my grain, really. But I don't know why and for what reason I found this idea very appealing. The more I thought about it, the stronger it took hold of my imagination. I could see people reading my articles, and discussing them at the street corners, admiring 'so much wisdom in one so young' and all that and then clicking on the advertisements because I had wisely decided to put them on my site. I could see myself as the power behind many a successful businessmen, who were ever so thankful for my contribution. The picture magnified with each passing hour, and by evening I couldn't wait any longer.I took the plunge at the deep end, without a life jacket and without any idea of how I would stay afloat (as it became obvious eventually). The First SlipMy first step was to decide on a domain name. It was only when I started thinking about it did I realise, that I did not have the faintest idea what the website was going to be about. But of course, it had to match my talent and my standards. Anything small and simple was best left to people with no ambition. I was far too motivated (how is that for a euphimism) to start small. Finally I decided to start an online store, the best, the biggest, the brightest, the smartest, the sassiest, the savviest, the suavest (If you have any problems with my choice of adjectives, write to me and I will make the necessary change. I don't have time to look up a dictionary now). And best of all full of advertisements. Wouldn't Seimens be happy when I made their dishwashers so popular, the word seimen would only ever conjure up the image of a machine full of dirty dishes in the minds of people, instead of something else that it does now?Once again, the more I thought about it the more magnified this idea became in my mind and the more overwhelmed I felt by my own brilliance. Yes! I would be a businesswoman, selling singlehandedly, more than all the Tescos, Asdas, and Walmarts put together.I promptly registered a name www.safeshopsonline.co.uk and got cracking... my head, that is, banging it, as I was, against the wall. For I had no idea where my website was and what it looked like. I typed the URL in Google to see my website and received a blank for reply. I promptly dashed off an email to the company I had used for registering the name to get some details. The polite reply I received, enlightened me to the fact that, to have a website I would have to first buy a hosting package and then build my own site. For some reason I had been thinking that I would see a ready made website just like the one I had been building in my mind, when I registered a domain name.So I started building the site, the biggest , the best, the smartest....Soon it became amply clear that I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I had no knowledge of how a site is built. I subscribed to a 'what you see is what you get' site wizard and started typing. The final result looked like an MSword document. Moreover, I had no idea how and from where I would get advertisements to put on my site and what I would have to do to set up a shop with check out and payment facilities. Now to cut the long story short, just like a balloon bursts when filled with too much air, my idea became a victim of its own brilliance - and of the fact that some people had already made use of my brilliant ideas even before I had thought of them.

Earn By Advertising On Your Sites Or Blogs
ONLINE ADVERTISING
You have a chance of earning a decent income if you can help businesses by supporting their online advertising campaigns and generating revenue for them. All you need is your own website or blog, which can support advertisements from third parties. You will be surprised to know that even the most high profile and successful companies like Tesco and Walmart use online advertising as a source of generating business. Amazon.com boasts of 900,000 associate members worldwide. This is the only option on my website which, I can truly say provides a relatively easier source of money. But you must remember that an initial investment is required before you can start raking it in, unless you decide to build your website with a free sub domain.
How do I start?
The first step is to create a website or a blog which accepts links from third parties. Daunting as it may seem it is not very difficult if you find the right host. To get started decide on a name for your website. Then find a registering agent who will provide a search facility for you to find out if your preferred choice of domain name is available. Once you find a name that is available, register it in simple guided steps.
Your second step is to find an agent who will host your site. This agent is most likely to be the company you have used to register your domain name. In fact it is a good idea to first select the company that you want to use for hosting your site and then register your domain name using the same company.
The next step is to source articles for your web site. You can either write the articles yourself, get them written by a ghost writer or source all the material from thousands of free resources on the internet (don't forget to give credit, though).
How can I choose the right agent for myself?
Some factor that need to be taken into consideration while choosing a registering and hosting agent are, after sales support (extremely important if you are a novice), web space available, bandwidth available (speed of file transfer), email accounts, cost of wizards used for building the website or of using MS Front Page extensions if you plan to use Microsoft Front Page site builder, availability of web site building tools suitable to your requirement (e.g. If you want to open an online store the site builder should offer e-commerce tool), cost of hosting package, cost of domain name etc. Some companies have special offers like free Google Adwords voucher, free domain name with web hosting, free site building tools etc. When taken into consideration these factors can knock off substantial amounts from your cost. So it is best to consider the total cost per annum before deciding which package will offer the best value for your money.
Some of the best offers we found for you when researching the web hosting packages are
www.godaddy.com
www.ixwebhosting.com
www.bluehost.com
If you want any further details of hosting then feel free to e-mail me.
We love these colourful banners because they offer great value for money. Now it is for you to work out which one has the best package for your requirements.
Alternatively if you wish to set up a website for free, select a free hosting space provider, like blog spot or blogger. Remember, when you go for a free hosting package you will get a subdomain like www.example.blogspot.com and not www.example.com .
How will I earn revenue by placing the ads on my website?
Some online advertising programmes like Google AdSense pay you per click i.e. every time an ad placed on your site receives a click you will earn a little. (Well, now you know how we manage to keep our website running). This programme is available through the link given below and is definitely worth a look because it is one of those rare online advertising programmes, that pays per click whether the click converts into a sale or not.
You can also earn by getting people to sign up for the Google adsense programme. If you sign up from my link Google will pay me when your earnings reach $100.
Most other companies like Amazon.com, pay when link followed through your site converts into a sale. Each merchant has its own rate at which it remunerates.
The best way of getting online advertisements from very reputable and trusted merchants, which are most likely to convert into sales, is to join an associate network. These network companies place links from their clients on your website, allowing you to earn commission. You have the right to choose the merchants from the companies' list of clients. You can select those who, you think, are most suited to the context of your site and whose ads according to you, are most likely to convert into sales.
Do remember, applying for online advertisement programmes and getting the affiliate links in place is a time consuming affair, so it is best to get started as soon as you feel that your website is reasonably ready.

Freelance Work
FREELANCE WORK
Very often companies find themselves in situations where they are short staffed. They win a project, which requires additional staff, but this staff is costly to retain once the project is over. They need occasional help in a field for which they think a dedicated employee is an unjustified expense. At times they are even trying to reduce overheads by keeping employees stationed in their offices at a bare minimum, thus outsourcing as much work as possible. These are the types of employers who drive the freelance work market. It is in these and similar situations that you slip in, do freelance work and make your money.
What kind of work are we talking about?
The variety of projects available to a person interested in doing freelance work is mind-boggling. It could be anything -transcription and typing of audio files, web site developing, creative writing, data entry, research, programming, localised sales, making architectural drawings, graphic design, journalism, illustration, photography, web designing, copywriting, proof reading, editing, writing messages for greeting cards, writing hotel reviews, logo designing, ezine and newsletter designing… in fact just about anything you can think of.
How can I find freelance work on the Internet?
The first step towards being a freelancer is to register with the sites that list freelance work projects. Most sites are free to register unless you choose to buy upgrades. Search for projects that suit your expertise and apply. It is a good idea to check out what others are bidding for similar projects or at what rates such projects have closed in the past.
What should I do once I find freelance work I would like to take up?
Once you have decided which projects you like, the next logical step is to work out the time and effort or in some cases expense it will take to complete the project. Then place a bid stating your price and the time you will take to complete it.
Will I get the project if my bid is the lowest?
Not necessarily. The factors that influence who the successful winner is, are, qualifications as per the resume, reference of previous work if available, price and time required to finish the project. If a company is satisfied with your work, there is a good chance that you will be hired for future projects.
Will I earn easy money for doing little?
Highly unlikely. As the name suggests freelance work is about working in a field in which you find yourself competent, in your own time, from wherever you like. But freelance work is work all right. (Didn’t we tell you right at the outset that we didn’t believe in get rich quick schemes?)
Some sites promises us to give us fast money just for clicking adds or reading e-mails.But remember most of them are scams.

My Best Ways To Earn Online
PAID SURVEYS
Would anyone actually pay good money to find out your opinion? Surprising as it may sound, the answer is yes! There are many reputable and good market research companies on the Internet, which are employed by large corporations to find out what the general public feels about their company or their products. They want reports on how their advertisements are working and how their products actually rate with the consumers. These large companies pay the market research companies to pick our brains and by participating in the paid surveys we get a share of their earnings. Needless to add, there is not much likelihood of you being paid $250 or £200 an hour.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to pay to join the paid survey companies?
No. Most good and reputable market research companies do not ask for any payment to let you join their programmes. They are more interested in your qualifications and in your situation, for example if you have children living at home, to decide if you qualify for taking any particular paid survey. This is in fact a good first indicator of whether you should trust a company.
Quick Tip: Avoid companies asking for money before they send you any paid surveys. Chances are they will be the only ones making money while you will be left wringing your hands.
However, some sites, which are not market research companies but databases or directories companies offering of paid surveys, do charge money to join. It is very important the check facilities like money back guarantees etc. which may provide clues towards the authenticity of these directories.
I, on the other hand, provide you a free directory of paid survey companies in the hope that you will be tempted to help me by referring my website to all your friends.
What type of work will a paid survey company provide?
A market research company will provide any of these
1. Send paid surveys by email for you to complete.
2. Ask you to be a part of a focus group.
3. Send free samples for you to test and report on.
What will happen once I sign up?
Once you sign up to take an online paid survey you will be sent surveys to your preferred email address. By participating in these surveys you can earn cash, win prizes, earn shopping vouchers or earn points, which can later be converted to cash or rewards.
Tips to remember:
Create a dedicated email address to receive online paid surveys. This way you work will be streamlined and you won’t miss any opportunities because an alert got mixed up with other mails.
If you intend to take a paid survey do it as soon as you possibly can after receiving an alert. Sometimes surveys are closed after receiving a pre-decided number of replies.
What if it is not possible for me to answer a survey?
Just ignore it!! Yes, you may take as many or as few paid surveys as you wish. You have no commitment to answer just because you have received an alert.
Will I have a regular supply of work?
It is highly unlikely that you will receive a paid survey to fill everyday from any one company. Most paid survey sites will only send surveys 2-4 times a month. The best, and perhaps, the only way to ensure you get regular work is to join as many companies as is possible. Having said this, I would not advise you to do so by paying an enrolment fee to any company to join its panel. It is also worth noting that people in the USA get far more surveys to fill than any other country. Don't be in a rush to fire your boss until you have tried these ideas for a few months.
